Corner Radii

Avoid sharp internal corners. Use a minimum 0.5mm radius to reduce stress concentration and prevent cracking.

Wall Thickness

Keep walls uniform. Heavy cross-section changes cause voids and warping during cooling.

Thermal Gap

Calculate the “closing in” effect. Press-fitting POM into metal reduces the ID. We can help calculate this.

Material Grade

Specify Homopolymer (Delrin) for strength, or Copolymer (Acetron) for center-line porosity freedom.

FAQ: Custom POM Bushings

What is the difference between Acetal Homopolymer (Delrin) and Copolymer?

Homopolymer (Delrin) is slightly harder and stronger but can have center-line porosity in thick sections. Copolymer is more resistant to hydrolysis (hot water) and is porosity-free, making it better for medical and food applications.

Can POM bushings run without lubrication?

Yes, POM has excellent natural lubricity and low friction. However, initial lubrication improves life. For completely dry running, we recommend PTFE-filled POM grades.

Do you offer off-the-shelf sizes?

No. Rapidaccu is a custom manufacturer. We machine parts strictly according to customer-supplied drawings and specifications.

What are the temperature limits for POM bushings?

POM is stable up to approx 100°C (212°F) for continuous use. For higher temperatures, we recommend switching to PEEK or PTFE.

How do you ensure tight tolerances on plastic?

We use sharp, polished tools, controlled cutting speeds, and temperature-controlled inspection rooms. We also stress-relieve material before finish machining to prevent warping.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

We accommodate both prototyping (1-10 pcs) and low-to-mid volume production runs (1000+ pcs). There is no strict MOQ, but setup costs apply to small batches.

Can you machine internal grooves or threads?

Yes. Our CNC turning centers can machine complex internal features, including oil grooves, snap-ring grooves, and standard or custom threads.

Is POM suitable for vacuum applications?

Standard POM can outgas slightly. For high-vacuum or semiconductor applications, we typically recommend PTFE or PEEK instead.
