Engineering-First Manufacturing

At Rapidaccu, we are not a catalog stockist. We are a dedicated custom PTFE bushings manufacturer and supplier serving industries where failure is not an option. Our facility is equipped with specialized Swiss-style lathes and multi-axis CNC centers optimized for soft polymers like PTFE (Teflon™).

Processing PTFE requires strict control over environmental variables. Our climate-controlled machining centers ensure thermal stability, preventing the notorious “creep” and dimensional instability often seen in generalist machine shops. Every batch undergoes rigorous inspection including surface roughness testing and air gauging for bore concentricity.

Quality Assurance

Full material traceability (MTRs), First Article Inspection (FAI), and PPAP Level 3 available upon request.

Process Control

Dedicated tooling for plastics to prevent ferrous contamination. Sharp, polished tools ensure burr-free finishes.

Material Behavior Analysis

Cold Flow (Creep)

Virgin PTFE exhibits high creep under load. For high-load bushing applications, we recommend glass or bronze filled grades to increase compressive strength by up to 200%.

Thermal Expansion

PTFE has a high CTE (~100 ppm/°C). Bushing design must account for expansion clearance at operating temperature to prevent seizure on the shaft.

Chemical Resistance

Virtually inert to all chemicals. Ideal for bushings in pumps handling corrosive acids or bases where metal bearings would fail immediately.

Custom Manufacturing Workflow

Step 01

Design & Feasibility Review

We analyze your drawing for DFM issues specific to PTFE, such as wall thickness ratios and tolerance stack-ups.

Step 02

Material Selection & Stress Relief

Selecting the right grade (Virgin, Glass-filled, Carbon-filled). Pre-machining stress relief annealing is performed if necessary to ensure stability.

Step 03

Precision Machining

Using high-speed spindles and sharp tooling to prevent material smearing. Coolant-free or compatible coolant machining to avoid contamination.

Step 04

Final Inspection & Packaging

100% dimensional check. Parts are cleaned, bagged, and labeled to prevent debris attraction (static control).

Engineering Review: Common Pitfalls

The Interference Fit Trap

Problem: Designers often specify metal-like interference fits for PTFE bushings.

Solution: PTFE is soft. Heavy interference leads to ID collapse. We recommend a lighter press fit combined with a mechanical retention feature (shoulder or groove) or calculating the ID reduction factor (usually ~80-90% of interference).

Surface Finish Spec

Problem: Specifying ultra-low Ra (e.g., 0.2µm) unnecessarily increases cost.

Solution: PTFE is naturally slick. A standard machined finish of 0.8-1.6µm Ra performs excellently. Super-finishing is often redundant unless for sealing surfaces.

Industry Applications

Chemical Processing

Valve seats and pump bushings resistant to aggressive acids.

Semiconductor

Insulating bushings for wafer handling equipment. Low outgassing.

Medical Devices

FDA-compliant biocompatible bushings for surgical fixtures.

Food Machinery

Self-lubricating bushings where grease is prohibited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you stock standard PTFE bushing sizes?

No. Rapidaccu is strictly a custom manufacturer. We machine bushings to your specific drawings and tolerances, ensuring a perfect fit for your application rather than a “close enough” standard part.

What is the tightest tolerance you can hold on PTFE?

For small diameters (< 25mm), we can hold ±0.01mm (0.0004″). However, due to PTFE’s high thermal expansion, we recommend specifying tolerances at 20°C and allowing for some variance in uncontrolled environments.

Can you machine filled PTFE grades?

Yes. We regularly machine glass-filled (15%, 25%), carbon-filled, bronze-filled, and graphite-filled PTFE. Each filler improves specific properties like wear resistance or compressive strength.

What is the lead time for custom bushings?

Standard lead time is 2-3 weeks. We offer an expedited service of 3-5 days for urgent requirements, depending on material availability and shop load.

How do you handle burrs on PTFE?

PTFE is prone to feathering. We use ultra-sharp, polished tooling and specific toolpaths to minimize burrs. Any remaining burrs are removed cryogenically or manually under magnification.

Do you provide material certification?

Yes, we provide full traceability including Material Test Reports (MTRs) and Certificate of Conformance (CoC) with every shipment upon request.

What is the maximum diameter you can machine?

We can turn PTFE bushings up to 300mm (12 inches) in diameter. For larger sizes, please contact our engineering team to discuss feasibility.

Is PTFE suitable for high-load applications?

Virgin PTFE is not recommended for high loads due to cold flow. For high loads, we recommend Bronze-filled PTFE or switching to a material like PEEK or POM, which we also manufacture.
