What is the difference between GPPS and HIPS?

GPPS (General Purpose Polystyrene) is crystal clear, rigid, and brittle ideal for display and packaging. HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) is opaque with rubber modification providing higher impact strength suitable for durable housings and protective applications.

Does PS require drying before molding?

Polystyrene has very low moisture absorption and typically does not require pre-drying. However, if material has been stored in high humidity or shows moisture contamination, drying at 70-80°C for 2-3 hours is recommended to prevent defects.

What tolerances can be achieved with PS molding?

Typical tolerances for PS injection molding range from ±0.05mm to ±0.15mm depending on part size and geometry. PS has low shrinkage (0.4-0.7%) and excellent dimensional stability allowing for precise tolerances with proper mold design and processing control.
