Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 7075-T6 and 6061-T6 aluminum?

7075-T6 is significantly stronger than 6061-T6, with tensile strength of 572 MPa versus 310 MPa. However, 6061-T6 offers better corrosion resistance and weldability. 7075-T6 is preferred for applications requiring maximum strength, while 6061-T6 is better for welded structures and general applications.

Can 7075-T6 aluminum be welded?

7075-T6 has poor weldability and is generally not recommended for welding due to hot cracking susceptibility and loss of strength in the heat-affected zone. For applications requiring welding, mechanical fastening or adhesive bonding are preferred joining methods.

What tolerances can you achieve with 7075-T6 machining?

Our precision CNC machining can achieve tolerances as tight as ±0.005mm on critical dimensions for 7075-T6 aluminum. Standard tolerances are ±0.05mm, with tighter tolerances available for aerospace and precision applications. Surface finishes down to Ra 0.4μm can be achieved.

Do you provide material certificates for 7075-T6?

Yes, we provide complete material traceability including mill test reports (MTR), chemical composition analysis, and mechanical property certifications conforming to ASTM B221, AMS 4045, or other relevant standards. All material is sourced from certified suppliers.

What anodizing options are available for 7075-T6 parts?

We offer Type II sulfuric acid anodizing (clear, black, or colored) and Type III hard coat anodizing for enhanced wear resistance. Hard anodizing can achieve coating thickness up to 125 microns with hardness exceeding 500 HV for demanding applications.

What is the typical lead time for 7075-T6 parts?

Lead times vary based on part complexity and quantity. Typical production ranges from 2-3 weeks for standard parts. We provide detailed scheduling during the quotation process and can accommodate project-specific timeline requirements.
